You know it’s going to be hairy when the first form you fill out is an emergency contact form. Maybe the fact that we would be venturing to two places that were hundreds of miles from the nearest cell phone service had something to do with it. “Couldn’t we just test out the Land Cruiser on some rough hills right here, locally?” I asked. “It’s not the same. It’s a cheat. It’s more authentic if you are somewhere that leaves you up the creek if something goes wrong” was the answer. So I did a conference call with the team and got my plane tickets issued for the Northern Territory of Australia and the Yukon Territory of Canada. Hopefully the crawl control system, the Kinetic Dynamic Suspension System and the locking Torsen® center differential will keep them from notifying my next of kin. For this trip I have a feeling the Land Cruiser won’t be nice to have, it’ll be essential. Check back here for updates.
